4 of 4 people found the following review helpful: Monster or Interac? 6/11/2002 I have purchased the Interac component video cables, the Interac S-video cables and the Monster 400 Component video cables for the playstation 2. I use a Toshiba flat screen that has both s-video and component inputs. I didn't see much of a difference between the Interac s-video and the generic low-end s-video (although maybe should have allowed for burn-time longer than 2 weeks with more than my average use of three hours a day?) Similarily, I saw hardly any difference between generic component (with minimal shielding) and Interac component cables (which are manufactured by Acoustic Research by the way-a good cable company.I recomend their Pro series cables, a great value, esp. the audio cables). With the Monster 400 component cable, I immediately saw a slight difference. The picture was a bit brighter. The images looked a little sharper; so much so in fact that I had to turn the sharpness controls down.At the same time, the colors were somewhat more vivid and "smoother" looking, with a little less dot crawl.I paid the price for the improvement however. The monsters were twice the price of the Interac components, which have silver-coated copper conductors I believe. Don't get me wrong, I am not a biased Monster fan. Imho, I think it is a well-known fact that they charge a lot more for the same quality cable.As a matter of fact, I did return the Monster cable to the store I bought it from, because I didn't feel like paying 90 bucks cdn. right now for just a slight increase in picture quality. I confess that in future I am considering ordering componet cable from bettercables.com. It has silver-coated copper conductors. Well, yes so do the Acoustic Research pro series components.But the bcs have something that the Ars don't mention on their packaging: very good timing variance. In other words, the bcs have very little timing variance between the three signals that travel in the component cable= better detail, I hope. Monster Z series are good too. I have the Z1 speaker cable... I think silver conductors are the only way to go for a major step up in picture quality. I think when judging the picture quality produced by supposedly high-end cable we need to try and avoid the "placebo effect" (for want of a better expression). Don't let your mind play games with you on your expectations. Just because a cable has your favorite brand name on it, doesn't necessarily mean it will perform better than others. Thank You. 0 of 13 people found the following review helpful: Might be a good product if....... 4/30/2002 Maybe Im just a rock but how are you supposed to connect your system to both a TV and a audio reciever/decoder? There is not enough play in the end to allow the video cable to go to the TV and the audio cables to go to my sound system. So after trying to slice the individual cables apart with my kbar I finally gave up and just used regular AV cables. Thank You. Was this review helpful?
1 of 2 people found the following review helpful: Not as great as it should be 3/14/2002 The cable does offer superior picture and sound quality as the product claims. There is a flaw with the cable however. For almost [money] you would expect a better connector from the cable to the PS2 system. The monster cable connector is not quite a tight enough fit which causes it to make a bad contact. The symptoms you might get are flickering on the screen and slight loss in sound or sound quality before the connection is lost without warning while playing. Not only is this annoying but it is also frustrating when you hit a tense spot in a game and then have to pause it to correct the problem. I would have expected a lot more for my money! I should mention that my PS2 is ALWAYS stationary and is not moving at all when the connection is lost. This situation while aggrivating, is not all that bad but I would recommend a different cable for anyone who has all of their A/V equipment jammed in a cabinet and cannot get to the connectors easily. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful: not necesary if you have a good TV 2/27/2002 I have a 29" LG flatron (this is an EXCELLENT TV), and the quality of the DVD movies and the games when I use the standar AV cables that came with the PS2 was great. Now with my new COMPONENT CABLES I have almost the same quality, the truth is that my TV have lots of filters and amplifiers that improve the quality of the signal and the performance with my new cables are not noticeable." My advice if that if you have a good quality TV (like my LG flatron) use the cables that came with the PS2. you will not see any difference. 2 of 12 people found the following review helpful: BUYERS BEWARE!!! 2/6/2002 I bought this cable to hook up my Playstation 2 with a Promedia DD-5.1 (Digital Decoder). The Problem is that the cable I bought didn't produce 5.1 Dolby Digital or DTS, just stereo. Read the reviews for the X-box Lightwave 100 cable; they are the same cable except for the color. Some people maybe haven't figured it out yet because they don't use a Digital Decoder, but all they are hearing is Stereo sound. Im pretty upset because I sent my Digital Decoder back to Klipsch thinking that was the problem, but it was actually the cable. By the way the customer service at Klipsch is simply the best, they produced high quality equipment, not like over at monster cable. So beware! If you are paying big $ for a cable shouldn't it at least work or do what it say it does? Thank You. Was this review helpful?
